Connections between the Malabar Coast & Maritime Southeast Asia- Special Talk

14 Sept | 10am - 11.30am

FREE with refundable deposit of $10

Join us for an insightful webinar with Dr Sebastian Prange, a historian and academic recognised for his studies on the medieval Indian Ocean world. Dr Prange is the author of the acclaimed book Monsoon Islam: Trade and Faith on the Medieval Malabar Coast, which was awarded the John F. Richards Prize in South Asian History and American Historical Association – Pacific Coast Branch Book Award.

In this webinar, Dr Prange will present insights from his book, exploring the vibrant history of the Malabar Coast, a once-thriving centre for maritime trade renowned for its rich biodiversity and abundant natural resources. He will then delve deeper into the maritime and cultural connections between the Malabar Coast and Southeast Asia during the pre-colonial era, highlighting how Malabari Muslim merchant communities played a crucial role in maritime trade and the spread of Islam in the region.
