Get colouring! We’ve put together a set of colouring sheets on the exquisite jewellery and everyday kitchen essentials in our museum collection. There’s also one featuring the shophouses in our precinct. Titled Colour Our Collection, the sheets are suitable for children 10 and above and have been designed to reinforce the heritage and cultural content within our walls.
Children aged 5 to 10 can also get involved. They can choose to bedazzle and colour a sari, fold and create their own kavadi, or test their knowledge about some of the historical personalities featured in our gallery.
Filled with garland makers, jewellery shops, eateries and temples, Little India is a feast for the senses. Our trail companion, in the form of a hands-on booklet, highlights key icons in the lively cultural precinct and will help orientate young ones as they navigate the district’s mesmerising 5-foot ways.

Every Pongal, we boil pots of fresh rice with a generous helping of milk, cardamom, sugar and the like. Then we wait for it to overflow — a symbol of abundance and prosperity for the coming year.
During the harvest festival, we express gratitude towards Mother Earth for her provision and the resulting bountiful crop. Cattle are bathed, their horns painted and their necks adorned with fresh flower garlands.
That’s Pongal in a nutshell. Learn more about the holiday using these additional materials we’ve prepared.
